CCHSC Americorps Seniors Program

Primary Focus Area is Healthy Futures – Access to Care and Obesity & Food objectives, providing social support, increasing health knowledge, promoting healthy lifestyles, preserving cultural food practices, fostering intergenerational connections. Supported by National Council of Aging

All Senior 918 Super Volunteers and

Senior Volunteers will receive: 

The opportunity to make a difference in your community by helping to match volunteers with service opportunities of interest in Cherokee County.

Supplemental insurance coverage: accident, personal liability, and excess automobile liability 

Recognition, social connection, and opportunities to serve others


Qualifications

To become a member of Seniors 918, you must: 

• Be age 55 or older at time of application. 

• Apply, interview and accept an offer to participate in the program as a Member or as a Super Volunteer.

• Complete a National Service Criminal History Check (NSCHC) before your first day of volunteer service: 

• FBI fingerprint check 

• State repository check (state of service & residence) 

• National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) search 

• Complete 20 hours of pre-service orientation/training & 24 hours annually of in-service training


Super Senior 918

 25 members of Senior 918 will be a Super volunteer who are agreeing to:

• Help recruit and do a little more in Senior 918 for a hourly stipend ($10/hr for up to 35 hours a month) 

• Paid for all in-service time (service activities, training, required program events/activities) 

• Not subject to income restrictions (unlike most other AmeriCorps Seniors programs) 

• Stipends are not taxable and cannot be treated as income/wages for the purpose of eligibility for ANY federal assistance or benefit 

• Serve at least 35 hours a month through the Senior 918 volunteer opportunities at CCHSC or with our community partners and events.


History

 CCHSC is one of seven organizations awarded a Native Nations SDP grant in 2023 

• Primary Focus Area is Healthy Futures – Access to Care and Obesity & Food objectives 

• Providing social support • Increasing health knowledge 

• Promoting healthy lifestyles 

• Preserving cultural food practices 

• Fostering intergenerational connections 

• CCHSC Native Nations SDP will utilize a stipend volunteer model for 25 Super Volunteers.



Program Overview: Native Nations SDP awards are three-year grant awards that cover a three-year performance period. All Performance Measure targets reflect the grantee’s three-year goals. Projects have a period of performance of July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026. Projects may include a six-month planning period, included in the three-year performance period.

Senior 918 super volunteers and members prohibited activities while serving: Political activities, Religious activities, Labor or anti-labor activities and any activities that would displace/supplant  employed workers
